How to style an outfit with a kimono

11:56

The kimono. Summer's most wanted item. But the secrets to styling an outfit around it, suddenly everyone is unsure. Today, I thought I would create a mini look book for all of you to show you outfit examples you can try with your kimono. If you have not yet got a kimono then these tips may be useful in the future or just very informative if you want to know what to look for when styling a great outfit.

I purchased my kimono from new look. Strangely I found mine in the sale ( no kimonos are meant to be on sale yet!?) and instantly loved it. The colour pallete includes Georgous summer tones and the edging really jazzes it up. The more typical kimonos however, have the fringing at the bottom as that is the more traditional style but I suppose I'm rebelling!

1) apologies for the very bright sun, making the picture a little blurry!
Outfit number 1 is a very summery and a more laid back look. I picked out the main colour of the kimono (white) and picked out my top, shorts and sandals in that colour so the kimono would easily stand out and be the main feature. The owl necklace and bow in my hair matched the royal blue colour of the kimono adding a clever pop of colour, not too distracting from the kimono. I really like this look as it creates an illusion that you've really thought about the outfit when secretly you haven't! Shhhhh!

2)
Outfit number two is the more classy of the outfits. I picked out the coral from the kimono and matched a dress to it. From the back it then adds texture as the kimono and dress are both different lengths. The dark frilly socks add contrast to the bright top half yet still match perfectly to the kimono itself. And finally the white converse gives the outfit a more casual sway to it and add a summery vibe.

3)
Outfit number three is very much a beachy one. The colour blocking from the top and sandals add variety and the high pony-tail infers a more sporty and cute look. The transition from the top dark half of the outfit, gradually getting lighter towards the bottom is striking and a clever technique for more people to turn heads when you grace past them. The sandals and hair accessory give a fun feel to the outfit and the parrot necklace adds an exotic touch.

4)
Outfit number four is a classic twist on the 60's look. The bun and the cute peter- pan neck top are a more 60's take compared to the skater skirt and Nike air max, part of out modern era. This outfit oozes with cuteness, especially with the frilly socks and hair bow and may even perfect for those of you lucky ones who get to wear their own clothes to school.

If you have any questions , requests or comments about my mini look book, be sure to leave them down below, they really do make my day! Also if this post has caught your eye be sure to follow me! As you can see I don't have any followers yet :(
